Promoting inclusion through accessible resources, metacognition, and differentiation

One of the seventeen United Nations sustainable development goals focuses on quality education. It aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. But what is inclusion in fact and how can you ensure it happens in your classroom?

This session explores how English Language Teachers can embrace inclusive education to support diverse learners in their classrooms. It introduces practical strategies for identifying and overcoming learning barriers, including differentiated instruction, metacognitive techniques, and assessment for learning.

Throughout the session we will also look at frameworks (e.g. the social model of disability and the universal design for learning) which promote flexible, student-centered approaches that benefit all learners and provide some tools and insights to create more equitable and engaging learning environments.
